A sheep, a duck, and a rooster on board The hot air balloon was invented in France in 1783 by brothers Joseph and Étienne Montgolfier. The brothers arranged a demonstration for Louis XVI and the royal family in the palace courtyard. The passengers on the first test flight were a sheep, a duck, and a rooster. The balloon rose to about 600 m, but the trip was not long. Due to a tear in the balloon casing, the balloon landed shortly after in the Vaucresson forest. Fortunately, the animals were unharmed, and they were then hailed as heroes and lived on the castle grounds for the rest of their lives.

We participated in the Dolomiti Balloon Festival in Dobbiaco, Italy – a small and intimate event with only 15 participating balloon teams. Hot air balloon flights take place either in the hours just before sunset or in the hours right after sunrise. During the flying season, the meeting and flight times will therefore vary according to the times of sunrise and sunset.

We are in the air for about an hour, depending slightly on wind and weather conditions, suitable landing spots, etc. However, you should plan for at least four hours for the entire experience.

Hot air balloons cannot be steered. They follow the wind's direction, and you never know exactly where you will land. After about 50 minutes, the pilot begins looking for a suitable landing site.

The chase vehicle follows the balloon on the ground and aims to arrive at the landing site shortly after the balloon has landed.

We alternate between a wide range of different flying regions in Zealand, Funen, and Jutland. In Jutland, we most often fly in the area around Silkeborg. On Funen, we typically start in the area between Tommerup, Årslev, and Ringe. In Zealand, we alternate between 4 flying regions: North Zealand, Roskilde, Jystrup/Ringsted, and Sorø.
