Balloon flight over beautiful North Zealand
And it’s not uncommon to be invited to the classic ‘coffee for unexpected guests’ when hospitable people want us to land the hot air balloon in their backyard.
North Zealand is characterized by many cities and a dense population, which often makes the flights very social activities with a lot of contact with people on the ground. It happens regularly that we surprise an otherwise peaceful barbecue on the terrace, children on trampolines or people walking their dogs in the hot air balloon.
See it all
However, it doesn’t take much elevation before the boundaries of North Zealand appear on the horizon. To the north, Denmark’s two largest lakes, Arresø and Esrum Sø, surround Gribskov Forest, Denmark’s second largest forest and a unique nature area filled with forest lakes, bogs, meadows and hilly pastures. Even further north, Kullen rises majestically in the distance behind the north coast of Zealand and the Kattegat. Looking east, we can see Øresund with Ven in the middle, while the Copenhagen skyline marks the southern part of the flight area. In the west, we are in principle bounded by Roskilde Fjord, which stretches from Frederikssund to Roskilde. Weather permitting, we would like to fly the balloon over the fjord and thus include the beautiful Hornsherred in our flight area. Hovering over the water is always breathtaking, and the animal and bird life around the fjord is spectacular. These are just a few examples of what often awaits you when you start your balloon flight in North Zealand or the surrounding area.
Typical starting locations in North Zealand
We can never decide on a take-off location before the day of the flight. This is because we need to know the wind directions before we can plan the flight. For balloon flights over North Zealand, we most often use launch sites in Slangerup, Hillerød, Veksø, Bagsværd, Tåstrup, Ishøj, Roskilde and in Skibby, and when possible, also in central Copenhagen.
