Silkeborg
A unique experience over Søhøjlandet
Silkeborg is a center for ballooning in Jutland, and there are many good reasons for this. That is precisely why DreamBalloon offers many hot air balloon rides in the area. Silkeborg is simply one of Denmark’s most beautiful flying areas. The combination of the large forest areas of the Søhøjlandet, the breathtaking lakes, the winding GudenÃ¥ River and Himmelbjerget on the horizon creates a magnificent panorama that is even more impressive when viewed from a hot air balloon. Ballooning in Silkeborg and the surrounding areas is an unforgettable experience that provides a completely unique perspective on the Danish landscape.
The Silkeborg forests constitute Denmark’s largest continuous forest area and are characterized by tall conifers. Here you will also find large areas of natural forests, including beech and other deciduous trees. Some of the oldest trees are up to 240 years old, and if we are lucky, we can spot Denmark’s tallest tree from the hot air balloon – a 52-meter Douglas fir, which stands close to SlÃ¥ensø in Sønderskoven southeast of Silkeborg, where it has grown since 1880 – and we will make sure to get you safely over it.
Balloon flight over city and countryside
Whenever possible, we start our balloon flights from the city of Silkeborg. It’s always spectacular to begin the flight between Silkeborg’s buildings, and before you know it, you’re soaring high above the ground with distant views. It’s not unusual to see cranes and buildings from the harbor in Aarhus, and on particularly good days we can also catch a glimpse of the sunset over Ringkøbing Fjord. These are just a few examples of what awaits you when you start ballooning in Silkeborg or the surrounding area. Of course, what you get to experience depends on the season, the wind, the weather and the time of day.
Where will we end up?
Whether the flight goes north towards Kjellerup and past Tange Sø or Hinge Sø (we’ve interrupted Den Store Bagedyst once – sorry DR) or south over lakes and forest, perhaps landing in Gl. Rye or even all the way up to the top of Yding Skovhøj south of the large Mossø, you can be sure of a very special nature experience. Ballooning in Jutland, especially around Silkeborg, is a unique experience that you will remember for a lifetime. When DreamBalloon organizes the trip, you can be sure that there are skilled and experienced pilots and crew behind the event, so you as a passenger can relax and enjoy the ride and the view!
Typical starting locations around Silkeborg
We can never determine a take-off location before the day of the flight, as we need to know the wind directions in order to plan the flight. In the area around Silkeborg, we try to start from the city if possible, but sometimes the weather can make it impossible to fly close to the many lakes and forests. In such cases, we have to start outside the city, in Ry or possibly from Gern or Sorring.
Please note that we always strive to fly in the desired area. If on the day of the flight this is not possible, but we can operate the flight in another nearby area, we will fly from there instead. This way we ensure that you get your flight on the desired day instead of a cancellation.
DreamBalloon has an online booking system accessible from the website. Once you've purchased your ticket, you can book your flight.
Here you can book your actual flight
Hot air balloon flights take place either in the hours just before sunset or in the hours right after sunrise. During the flying season, the meeting and flight times will therefore vary according to the times of sunrise and sunset.

The chase vehicle follows the balloon on the ground and aims to arrive at the landing site shortly after the balloon has landed.
